WhoSliders #13 – Doctor Who and the Sliders: WHOSLIDERS CONVENTION, TICKET TO RIDE

This is the crossover fanfic in my fan-series featuring Doctor Who (the Fifth Doctor – played by Peter Davison in the classic BBC tv series) – and the Sliders.

Story (C) 2005-2015 Mr SciRev.

For the Dr Who Timeline Related to this Fanfic, or to read what happened just before this fanfic, please see Who Sliders 12
For Stargate SG-1 this fanfic occurs just before the Season 4 episode “THE SERPENT’S VENOM”.

What you need to know:
The Doctor is a Time Lord – a time-traveller from the alien world called Gallifrey [Universe-777, the Stargate Universe] who travels in space and time thanks to his TARDIS which looks like a police box, bigger inside than outside. When the Doctor is severely injured or even killed, he will regenerate into a new appearance and body. He is currently in his fifth incarnation (4th regeneration). His thirteenth will be the last.

The Sliders have developed a technique called Sliding which allows them to go to different dimensions or parallel universes, but will they ever find the way to their home universe [Universe-001, Earth-001]? Actually Maggie and Diana come from Earth-022 and Earth-920 respectively and Maggie cannot breathe the air of Earth-001 so how will she survive if they eventually get there?

The Doctor with his companions – currently Major Samantha Carter of Stargate SG-1 from the US military of Earth-777, and the Sliders – is on a crusade to champion the cause of the innocent, the helpless and the powerless throughout the whole multiverse of multiple universes. The Doctor’s alteration to the Sliders’ timeline has resulted in multiple changes across various multiverse timelines in hypertime. Fixing these holes is an important task of the Doctor which has been sanctioned by an angel of God called the White Guardian. The Doctor has left behind his TARDIS in Earth-811 while he has slid together with Samantha Carter and the Sliders – Quinn, Wade, Professor Arturo, Diana and Remmy. Meanwhile Tegan, Adric, Nyssa and Maggie are still at Cheyenne Mountain. Gabriel Law and Maggie are new members of Stargate SG-1 while SG-1 without Maggie are on planet PX8-999, which may contain sliding technologies.”

Arturo landed first, flat on the ground. Next, Remmy landed, of course, on Arturo, hitting him! Arturo shouted ‘blistering idiot – look before you leap next time!’. The others landed nearby. They looked around them. The look of surprise was on their faces. They had landed on a street, packed with people. The people were all – themselves! They were all duplicates of the Sliders and the Doctor!
The Doctor was confused at first, since he had never met any alternate duplicates of himself so far. What world was this? They checked in at the Chandler Hotel, which was close to this convention, and prepared for what they needed to do. They had twelve hours in this world before they would have to slide away from it again.

PX8-999 (Universe-777)

Daniel Jackson looked towards the artifacts in the room. Together with Teal’c, Gabriel and Jack, they had just gated here – via Stargate – and discovered a huge room with various artifacts. Daniel had hoped there would be some sliding technology here, perhaps something the Ancients had left behind.
Teal’c saw a machine which might look like it had some complex use and noticed the Latin-like script which the Ancients used. Daniel agreed that it was most likely of Ancient design. Now the question was how to use it, without risking getting lost in some other universe. When he had touched a mirror which was a sliding device, Daniel had ended up in a parallel world. So they did not even try to touch it lest it activate. They took photos and then gated back to earth.

Earth-820

The Doctor had, for the past hour, conversed with one of his duplicates. The duplicate resembled his third self – though a bit changed, “interfered with” was the word that came to his mind when he saw him. The duplicate looked somewhat anorexic, very bony, and a bit sick too. The duplicate said he liked the dashing, James Bond-like stunts the third “Doctor Who” would do. The “sonic screwdriver” was fantastic too. The monsters, he liked too, from the Daleks of course to the Mutant Spiders of Metebelis 3. The Doctor did try to argue about the exaggeration of having a magic wand-like screwdriver to get out of any sticky situation, saying it was hardly realistic. On the other hand he agreed that a tool to unlock bolts and screws and some elementary type of locks was quite possible. But it couldn’t get you out of any situation or out of the strongest adamantium prisons! Quite recently the Doctor had lost his original sonic screwdriver.. The duplicate had one though, and it worked for the purposes mentioned so he gave it to the Doctor! Little did he imagine, that he was giving it to the real Doctor….

Earth-811

The TARDIS had been broken into. Its defenses were neutralised and the doors were open. Professor Quinn entered and almost had a heart attack when he saw how much larger the inside was, compared with the outside. His master Ahab would be very happy and reward him. Ahab would be the master of all time, all space and all dimensions and universes. He would be champion of the Multiverse. Ahab was preparing for his incursion into the past and the other timeline – 616 – where Rachel Summers lived. Then he would recapture her. The Ancient technologies of the TARDIS would help him make this a reality. He could use them – since he had added the Ancient gene to his own DNA some years ago – the gene which allowed one to use technologies of the Ancients. The Doctor obviously had to have the gene.

Earth-820

Remmy and Sam had checked out some of the stands at the Convention. They kept meeting people who looked like their clones. Apparently this world’s fictional WHOSLIDERS (on Bad Wolf Tv) had a Major Samantha Carter who had not joined SG-1. Instead in the show apparently she investigated Quinn’s work in his basement and ended up dragged into his first Slide, as did the real Remmy in his car on that day.

From a bright and cheerful stand, Remmy paid for and actually bought some WHOSLIDERS dvd’s. It would be a great souvenir of this world. Too bad they couldn’t go home. But what if the ultimate clue to getting back home would be found in one of these DVDs? That was the question he posed himself. He kicked himself – almost – for letting himself getting dragged in this whole thing in the first place. He could still have been a singer – hopefully famous – but he had to end up in Quinn’s wormhole’s field of action. At the same time, he now felt part of the Sliders family – WHOSLIDERS now indeed. He wondered if the Doctor’s plan to build a timemachine was serious. First sliding, then time travel. Of course they had travelled in the Doctor’s TARDIS, saw that it could go to the past and future. But did he trust the Doctor as an engineer – to build an actual time machine when the Doctor is saying that it’s not a fully-fledged one, it’s going to be a one-way trip. No return ticket. Did he want to risk this, getting lost in the future now too? What future would it be? A world overrun by Kromagg’s, or Kromagg-Goa’ulds? He almost did not want to think about it, confused, angry too perhaps. He wanted an easy solution, an easy way out. An answer. But life was like that. He ended up blurting these feelings out to Sam. It was easier perhaps because Sam was a relative newcomer for him, not part of the “family” of Sliders. At least not yet.
Remmy told Sam that perhaps remaining here might be a ‘safe’ choice. Sam disagreed. She wanted to return to her own universe. She was willing to risk going to an unknown future of a parallel earth.

Cheyenne Mountain, Earth-777

In the briefing room, a detailed exposition was given by the Stargate SG-1 team of the device they had encountered on planet PX8-999. Its inscriptions indeed seemed to indicate that it could be a sliding device. But it was too risky to touch before they knew how it operated. So General Hammond gave the team the order to study it. Maggie would help, where it came to sliding. But she was no scientist, so there were limits to her knowledge. Daniel explained that the inscriptions were definitely in the language of the Ancients. PX8-999 may have been one of their abandoned outposts.

Earth-820

The Doctor now went to a shop, located not far from the convention. The owner, yet another alternate version of Bennish, thought that the Doctor was another of these imitators. Did this world have the remaining parts he required? The sonic screwdriver he was given would make the contruction job a bit easier, though he could have done without and used an ordinary screwdiver. But it seemed that this world was technically a bit more advanced than the previous one, which would help.
The Doctor was satisfied of the parts stocked by Bennish, and purchased them. He then left, for the Chandler Hotel.
Once they were all in the hotel, they decided on what to do. The Doctor was going to build his new time machine. Sam, Wade, Quinn, Arturo and Diana all wanted to take the risk and go on with the Doctor. Remmy disagreed and wanted to stay in this earth. The others, especially Professor Arturo wanted him to rethink this, but he had made his mind. He would stay here and try to build a career as the real-life version of the Crying Man – the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll from the tv show WHOSLIDERS. So they had to say their goodbyes, in between of the weeping and crying – the Doctor excluded, of course. The Doctor was sad to see a friend go, but he had seen this so many times by now. It was almost routine.
Time passed.

The device was ready.

Quinn asked what would happen to the slide window once they jumped into the future. The sliding window was to this moment still tied to that laboratory of his, on Earth-001.

The Doctor explained that there was no certainty that the laboratory still operated, and if it did not, the sliding timer would be in-operational. But the technology of the future should allow sliding. There was still a question if it was legal, or not, but that meant it could be done, somehow. Quinn and the others weren’t so happy when they heard this, but they were ready to go anyway. The entire room was encased in a field of energy which emerged from the new time machine. It could only generate enough energy for this space and it was not so safe for long term usage. But it would be used only once.

Professor Arturo had his doubts on whether this contraption would work at all. He thought far more energy would be needed than this. But the principles of its operation were something he was not grasping. The Doctor had not exactly explained them. He had not explained them at all!

Arturo hoped the Doctor was sure of what he was doing. Soon, a hum could be heard and it reached a fever pitch. A white wave encased them all, until the room was suddenly empty. They had all left for the future. The future of Earth-820.

AUTHOR NOTES:
What Ahab does next is told in the four part story by Marvel comics “DAYS OF FUTURE PRESENT” – so we won’t be getting more about that. But we will see what becomes of the TARDIS and what consequences happen.
The Sam in this fic is Major Samantha Carter, not the Sam from some Eight Doctor novels.
I have been reading CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTHS, finally I managed to buy the book.
Earth-002 is DC’s Earth-2 but Earth-001 is not Earth-1. Earth-001 is the Sliders’ Earth-Prime. The DC Pre-Flashpoint Earth-Prime (a non-superhero world) is numbered Earth-099.
Actually, I am numbering Earth-100 to be DC’s Earth-1  or “Prime Earth” (post-Flashpoint) of the DCnU (new 52).
The scene at the cemetery on Post-Crisis Earth or Earth-999 owes a lot to ‘CRISIS EPILOGUE, The Last Good-Bye’ by Alan Kistler (fanzing.com). The (then future) year is 2014, in between of the events in Excalibur vol1 #66. It shows how the sliding technology was obtained by Ahab. See http://mutanthigh.com/excalibur66.html for a description of that issue.

Star Trek Legion of Super-Heroes Crossover: Chekov’s Scotch Whiskey and the TARDIS

I was rereading the Star Trek Legion of Super-heroes crossover and was impressed on how well written and drawn it was.

Released by IDW and DC comics starting in October 2011, it features a six issue crossover between the original Enterprise team (TOS) and DC’s Legion of Super-heroes of the time.

Writer: Chris Roberson
Pencils: Jeffrey Moy
Inks: Philip Moy
Colours: Romulo Fajardo JR
Letters: Chris Mowry, Shawn Lee, Robbie Robbins
Series edits: Chris Ryall

There is a reference to Darkseid placing this after the Great Darkness Saga for LOSH, which is still in “New 52” continuity, thus it seems this story has still happened in the “New 52” continuity.

And there is the TARDIS too, together with the Back to the Future Delorean and a host of other time machines…

Besides that, I noticed a reference to Chekov’s “Russian Misconceptions”, when he makes the LSH people think that in his universe Russia invented Scotch Whiskey, when in fact it didn’t!

This video has some nice “Russian Misconceptions” by Chekov.

AlphaGate #8 – ENTER THE STRANGE DOCTOR

This is the crossover fanfic in my fan-series which features a parallel universe Moonbase Alpha (Space:1999) as it would occur in Universe-777 (the Stargate & Doctor Who universe).

Story (C) 2007-2015 Mr SciRev

Previous episode: AlphaGate 7

For the Stargate Timeline, it happens after Stargate Atlantis 4×3 and the Stargate Continuum movie.
For the Doctor it occurs after the first Star Trek (2009) reboot universe fanfic on this site which can be found here.

SPOILER: V: The Original Series.

What you need to know:
“The IOA (International Oversight Advisory) has set up a top secret base on the moon powered by a ZPM (Zero-Point Module) – an ancient power source. Stargate Command has commissioned special crafts called Eagles and a Stargate – a ring-like device created by the Ancients able to send people through a wormhole – but one without a protective iris. A separate section on the moon houses a super-hadron collider. A mysterious hyperdrive in the catacombs of the moon has been activated, catapulting the moon to an unknown area in space. The moon ended up sliding through different parallel universes..
Meanwhile back on Earth-777, another moon has just materialised in the place of the missing moon. Aboard the moonbase are reptilian aliens known as the Visitors. They had attempted to bombard earth’s Stargate but failed thanks to the iris.

The Doctor is an alien explorer through time and space, going to amazing and terrible places in the universe, armed with his fantastic sonic screwdriver. The Tenth Doctor is currently travelling with Spock Prime.

Earth-702
**********

Shots were heard. The Alpha encampment which was the only trace of civilisation on this parallel earth was being attacked. But by whom? Wasn’t all of humanity on this earth dead ?

Victor looked up towards the sky and saw an army of flying invaders.

“What can these be?”

Star Trek: Captain Worf tv series rumour

A rumour has been going around that the next Star Trek tv series will be Captain Worf.

This idea has been going around for a couple of years, however Michael Dorn’s efforts may yet result in something concrete. If anything, a new tv series from Star Trek should concentrate on the TNG character of Worf.

On the other hand there is no indication that it is becoming more than a pipedream, thanks to the 2009 reboot. Hollywood missed the boat on a Captain Sulu series, and now may be doing the same on this one.
