Christopher Eccleston Finally Reveals Why He Left Doctor Who, Suing Murdoch

This is what Christopher Eccleston  said to the podcast Bad Wilf.

“I left Doctor Who because I could not get along with the senior people. I left because of politics. I did not see eye-to-eye with them. I didn’t agree with the way things were being run. I didn’t like the culture that had grown up, around the series. So I left, I felt, over a principle.

Leonard Nimoy and Bruno Mars!

Leonard Nimoy – better known to many worldwide as the original Spock in Star Trek TOS – is going to unretire.

Leonard Nimoy has appeared in Bruno Mars’ latest music video for “The Lazy Song (Official Alternate Version)”. There already was another music video released but Elektra Records also came up with this one. The song from the album Doo-Wops & Hooligans was released as a single last February 2001. Over a million digital copies alone were sold.
You really have to see this, it’s for real. And there’s a cameo or two by Trek actors too so this can count as a new “sci-fi music video” 🙂 .
Leonard Nimoy explained to the TrekMovie website how he got involved in this video.

I met Aaron Bay-Schuck in 1985 when I was preparing to direct St IV. He was 4-1/2 years old. I married his mother in 1989. Aaron is the Atlantic Records exec who signed Bruno Mars to the label.

Not too long ago, Nimoy also un-retired for the part of William Bell in the show Fringe (voice only, ok, for the episode Lysergic Acid Diethylamide) and he also will be heard as Sentinel Prime in the third Transformers movie this summer (Dark of the Moon).

Here’s the video with no further ado!

Shia LaBeouf to Quit Transformers Movie Franchise.. Reboot?

News has come out that the actor Shia LaBeouf from the Transformers Movie Franchise is quitting the franchise, together with Director Michael Bay, after the third movie.
He mentioned the possibility of a reboot.

This was discussed on MTV. Meanwhile in the latest sequel to 2009’s Transformers Revenge of the Fallen, the Autobots are back. Lead by Optimus Prime, the Autobots face the Decepticons once more, during a dangerous US-Russia space race. Once more Sam Witwicky has to help his robot friends.

LaBeouf said “I’m not coming back to do another one”, giving rise to the possiblity of either a new actor replacing him or a full reboot for the fourth movie (which Paramount is interested in).

Review: Doctor Who – Mara Tales (Kinda)

Here’s a review of the classic Doctor Who series episode Kinda which has been released as part of the Mara Tales Box set.

The episode, my favourite classic episode, has recently been released on DVD. The picture quality is superb, having been digitally restored. There are even new CGI effects which can be chosen if one prefers. The story was well known for its not so good rubber snake… 🙂

The recent James Cameron movie Avatar was influenced very much by this story, even though Avatar was too pessimistic and anti-human, while Kinda is pro-human and a much more positive story.

It’s worth watching indeed. The enemy is the evil entity, coming from the collective unconscious, known as the Mara. I wrote my first fanfic from which the WhoSliders series emerged as a sequel to the Mara stories in Doctor Who, so it’s worth viewing if you read my fics. It takes a spiritual and anthropological approach to sci-fi pioneered by Ursula K. Le Guin.
Humans from earth are about to colonise planet S14, known to the locals as Deva Loka (the location is revisited in my fics too and Hindle becomes a WhoSlider). And the ancient evil known as the Mara emerges in the subconscious of the Doctor’s companion Tegan (played by the wonderful Janet Fielding). Nyssa is kept out of the story as she is recuperating.

The episode features Peter Davison as the 5th Doctor, Janet Fielding as Tegan, Matthew Waterhouse as Adric, Nerys Hughes as Todd, Simon Rouse as Hindle and Adrian Mills as Aris. It was directed by Peter Grimwade and written by Christopher Bailey. It is really worth getting on DVD and viewing. You can get from the following Amazon uk link..
