Who Sliders 5 – Doctor Who and the Sliders: Of Dimensional Invasions and Alternate Future Refugees

This is a crossover fanfic in my fan-series featuring Doctor Who (the Fifth Doctor – as played by Peter Davison in the classic BBC tv series Doctor Who) – and the Sliders. Currently, I’m reposting my older WhoSliders volume 1 series which features mainly the Doctor (pre-time war) and the Sliders plus the 5th Doctor’s companions.

Story (C) 2001-2016 Mr SciRev.

For the Dr Who Timeline Related to this Fanfic, or to read what happened just before this fanfic, please see Who Sliders 4. The story could also be seen as a prequel to ’48 Hours’ (an episode from Season 5 of Stargate SG-1).

What you need to know:
The Doctor is a Time Lord – a time-traveller from the alien world called Gallifrey who travels in space and time thanks to his TARDIS which looks like a police box, bigger inside than outside. When the Doctor is severely injured or even killed, he will regenerate into a new appearance and body. He is currently in his fifth incarnation (4th regeneration). His thirteenth will be the last.

The Sliders have developed a technique called Sliding which allows them to go to different dimensions or parallel universes, but will they ever find the way to their home universe?

The Doctor with his companions – currently an Australian hostess named Tegan, young irritating genius Adric, alien orphan and technological expert Nyssa and the Sliders – is on a crusade to champion the cause of the innocent, the helpless and the powerless throughout the whole multiverse of multiple universes. The Doctor’s alteration to the Sliders’ timeline has resulted in multiple changes across various multiverse timelines in hypertime. Fixing these holes is an important task of the Doctor which has been sanctioned by an angel of God called the White Guardian.

Cheyenne Mountain
Jack O’Neil had just informed General Hammond. Earth was about to be invaded by Kromaggs from another dimension. Sam clarified that they were not aliens in the usual sense but the rightful inhabitants of a parallel earth where humanity had not evolved.Stargate sg-1

Soon afterwards, the Tok’ra had been contacted. The Tok’ra were very similar to the Gou’ald themselves in the physical sense, but they could not be more different in the spiritual one. The Tok’ra were people with a (healthy) fear of God. A respectful and loving fear not the kind of fear when you are afraid, Anise used to emphasise. (Anise was one of the Tok’ra Stargate SG-1 had met) They had good moral values, just the opposite of the Gou’alds. The Gou’alds would have no compulsion to execute genocide, and wipe out whole races and planets. The Tok’ra attempted to keep the Gou’alds at bay, but it was very difficult. The Tok’ra and Earth had an alliance. Sometimes some of the Tok’ra were a bit secretive or did not exactly help as one might expect, but it was always for a very good reason. One would note that the Tok’ra host would mostly be in control, unlike the Gou’ald.

A Tok’ra GDO (Garage Door Opener) signal had been sent through the gate and Stargate Command was ready to welcome the Tok’ra who were coming through the gate.
Jacob Carter stepped through the Stargate. General Hammond, and of course Jacob’s daughter – Sam – were very happy to see him again. “Hi, dad!”
“How’s my favourite SG-1 member doing?”

Briefing Room
The usual briefing took place, and everyone present was brought up to date on all the information which was known about the Kromaggs. The Sliders had been to this earth (Earth-777, a parallel one for them since they came from Earth-001 except for Maggie) some time ago, and since Wade was still being tracked by the Kromaggs at that time, it was certain that this world would be in danger. The Stargate team could be this Earth’s only hope.
Suddenly, while General Hammond was speaking, something unusual happened to the Stargate. There was an off-world activation, yet the Gate computer indicated that there was an error and the wormhole closed abruptly. Sam left the briefing room, as did the others, and entered the control area of the Gate room. With the Doctor’s help, Sam ascertained that something was waiting to materialise on their side of the Stargate even though an error situation was being reported.
Sam managed to detect an SG-1 signal, the usual GDO, plus some patterns for a person stored in the Stargate’s buffer systems. But how could this be? All of them were accounted for unless this was another gate access from the future. The last time this had happened, they had received a note from Jack in the future. Sam mentioned the note about a planet they had to avoid going to. In fact, the mission to go there had been cancelled, last year, as a result. The Doctor looked at the coordinates involved. ‘This looks familiar, he said.’

‘It’s a planet called Skaro. It’s the Dalek homeworld. You must avoid them. They want to build an empire after enslaving humans from the worlds they take over. If they get to know of Earth’s Stargate, they will attempt another invasion of earth so they can have free access to the Stargate network of planets. No, not if but when. We must not allow this to happen.’

The Sliders have developed a technique called Sliding which allows them to go to different dimensions or parallel universes, but will they ever find the way to their home universe?

The Doctor with his companions – currently an Australian hostess named Tegan, Hindle ( a previously deranged soldier from a future earth colony ), young irritating genius Adric, alien orphan and technological expert Nyssa and the Sliders – is on a crusade to champion the cause of the innocent, the helpless and the powerless throughout the whole multiverse of multiple universes. The Doctor’s alteration to the Sliders’ timeline has resulted in multiple changes across various multiverse timelines in hypertime. After they said their goodbyes – for the time being to Colin – and promised that they would return to pick him up, they left in the TARDIS, it dematerialised.

“On the TARDIS viewscreen, Doctor, quick! It’s Colin, stranded in the timestream! Well this is when he met us first. But who’s that woman next to him?” Tegan said.

The Doctor manipulated the TARDIS controls so that the TARDIS briefly materialised around the two, in such a way that the two found themselves inside the TARDIS control room, together with everyone else.

Quinn asked the Doctor how could this be possible and the Doctor promptly replied that a space-time bubble was formed around the two to allow them to do this.
‘Ah’, Quinn said. ‘I think I understand.’
‘Humans’, the Doctor thought.
‘The two are basically all that’s left over from the previous timeline, which was wiped out.’ the Doctor said as a deduction from the results of the scans of the two.
‘Cool’, Remmy said. ‘We could get them to tell us what would had happened if we hadn’t met the Doctor, i.e. how their timeline was.’
‘They have slipped through the cracks of our reality change just like Colonel Rickman did.” the Doctor smiled.
‘A little problem. We were supposed to have found Colin after Hindle leaves. While Hindle is still here! So this means some reality change has occurred again. I hope it is for the better’ the Doctor continued.
Once the two got used to their surroundings, it was clear that the pair were Colin who was stuck between parallel dimensions, due to Dr Geiger’s egotistical experiment in the previous timeline or reality. Dr Geiger wanted to alter the genetic makeup of a handicapped youth, by extracting DNA from the Sliders who travelled between parallel worlds. He had managed to combine the youth with Quinn, who became a single person, which they had called Mallory.
But Colin, Quinn’s brother, was left lost within the Sliding Vortex. Until now. The reality alteration resulted in him being freed.

But who was the other woman with Colin? “Would he know her”, Wade thought, almost with a hint of jealousy.
“I’m Maggie, one of the Sliders.” She said. “Quinn! Professor! You’re alive?”
“So Quinn, tell me, how did you get unmerged?”
“I don’t know you Maggie.. if that’s your name. We don’t know you.” Quinn answered.
“What? You must be a parallel version of my Quinn.” she replied.
“Your Quinn?” Wade was getting angry now.
After some time they managed to explain that the previous timeline had been altered drastically. They also explained to Colin how they had met his self from a day or two in the future, and how they would pick him up after he disappeared somehow. Maggie and Colin explained many things which had happened in their original timeline. This included the fact that Maggie’s parallel earth had been wiped out by a pulsar’s deadly radiation. Only Colonel Rickman, herself and a few others from her world had survived, in her timeline. In the new timeline, she was probably dead. She asked whether the Doctor could take them there but he said it probably would involve the Blinovitch Limitation, and that would be dangerous. “The fact you are here means that the version of yourself in the new timeline has died, unfortunately” the Doctor sighed. There really was nothing even he could do.
“What about the Remmy from the original timeline? What about Mallory and Diana?” Maggie asked. “The Remmy I was with had just slid to Earth-Prime, after injecting himself with antibodies which can kill the Kromaggs. Has all our effort been destroyed?” she asked.
“We have more pressing concerns right now. I can help you deal with your Kromaggs in due course. You should be aware that your timeline’s Colonel Rickman is alive and still sliding as far as we can tell. He attacked all of us here as well as the X-Men.” the Doctor explained.
“The X-Men?” Maggie was curious.
“Superheroes from a parallel earth – basically people born with an altered mutant genes which give them amazing abilities”, Adric explained.
Maggie could only say “Ah”. Years ago she would not have thought superheroes existed, not even in her wildest dreams, but after all she saw in her Slides, this was not an impossibility.

Maggie (Kari Wuhrer)

Nyssa scanned the surroundings for further potential lifeforms.
“One other lifeform is present not far away.” Nyssa said, and prepared for taking the lifeform on board.
They discovered it was actually Diana, an intelligent scientist who worked for Dr Geiger. She had joined the Sliders in the previous timeline.
Maggie was overjoyed to find one other person from the previous timeline, one who shared her memories. She was glad to be still alive, knowing that in this new timeline she should have died on her parallel earth. Suddenly Maggie was thoughtful. Diana asked her what the reason was.

The Doctor’s alteration to the Sliders’ timeline has resulted in multiple changes across various multiverse timelines in hypertime. Fixing these holes is an important task of the Doctor which has been sanctioned by an angel of God called the White Guardian.

You remember how the Doctor radically changed the history of the Sliders – indeed their timeline was well altered for the better. But since they were travellers who went to various parallel earths, those different universes which they had visited, now were all altered as a result of this. To fix these holes, left in the various timelines of the multiverse, the White Guardian has entrusted the Doctor with the task of making things right. This is the first one. What had happened on this particular parallel earth, before its timeline was altered by both the Doctor’s arrival, as well as Barclay’s Pathfinder beam.
For the reader’s benefit, what happened ON THIS DAY before the previous timeline was changed (or rather wiped out) is presented in italics. It is as if it never happened, now that the Doctor changed the timeline…

“Wow! That was a rough slide, don’t you think!” Remmy said to Colin.
Colin was Quinn’s brother. They had just slid back from another parallel world. Colin was born on the same parallel earth as Quinn was, but unlike Quinn who grew up on “Earth Prime” ie Earth-001, Colin was taken to a rural parallel Earth. He grew to love nature and appreciate its beauty. He grew on a farm. He could see the Creator reflected in his world’s nature. He was always ready to help his friends and to give his life for them. When Quinn found him he had eventually travelled with them, until he got ‘unstuck’ in the Time Continuum, due to a dangerous experiment conducted by a certain Dr Geiger. What a bad timeline this was, Colin thought, while he was ‘unstuck’. He would repeatedly find himself in different worlds for a few seconds, popping in and out of them. Never stopping. Until something happened once, he managed to stay in one of them. And on that world, he met Remmy and the Sliders. But they were not the same Sliders he knew. They were a parallel version, alternates of his friends, who had never met him. It had taken time, but they finally got to trust him.

“We have arrived at the Chandler Hotel of our world!” Alternate-Quinn said.
These Sliders were able to go back to their own world, unlike our own Sliders. They went back home often.
They were always trying to find Colin’s Sliders, but it was difficult. Their world was technologically very advanced, and their year was 1691! It was very unusual to Colin, but the others were used to this.
This time they were so sure that his Sliders had arrived on their own homeworld (Earth-001), but they could not trace them. Alternate-Quinn thought that the problem might be Time itself, perhaps they would have arrived here, in the future.
This was the correct guess in fact. Centuries later, Mallory, Remmy, Maggie and Diana would find the other Sliders’ Timer in an archeological dig. Diana was a Slider he had not met, and Mallory was the result of Dr Geiger’s dna combination experiment, which combined (our) Quinn and an alternate Quinn into a single person, who took the name Mallory afterwards.

Colin looked around the street close to the Chandler Hotel. Wistful, he hoped to see his friends. He saw an old parking meter and wondered where it would be when the other Sliders would get here. Probably buried underground, he thought. It would take an archaeological excavation to find it.
A war had started in this world’s middle east and quite soon it would arrive at the doorsteps of the Chandler Hotel. Abruptly, most of this world’s civilisation would come to an end. Sadly, Colin and the others would not live to tell their complete story. Their Timer would be found by Colin’s friends in the future.
This world’s Remmy was a hit singer who had accumulated many awards. Some of the locals who knew them were fans of Remmy. Lots of the awards and trophies were kept by some of them, in a special room. Some of the survivors of the war would keep their knowledge of it. Even though Remmy had died, some of them believed that this world’s Remmy had left their world by Sliding and would return one day. This legend came true, when the Remmy Colin knew arrived in this world, many centuries later.

Another TOTALLY DIFFERENT  Federation in Universe-001 has developed starships capable of sliding. Parships can Slide across parallel universes using ParTravel, based on Sliding technology. Captain Jefferson Fletcher of the Federation Parship U.S.S. Endeavour is himself from Earth-002 however.”

Meanwhile, on a Parship (Parallel-World Ship) orbiting the planet, Captain Jefferson Fletcher was getting anxious that his Science Officer had not returned on board. The Parship was from the 23rd Century but in this universe time moved more slowly, so it was still 2001 here. It was like they had went back in time, but they hadn’t.
Something must have gone wrong, he deduced. He ordered a scan of the building which his Science Officer was supposed to examine. Before the scan had finished an incoming signal was received.
Suddenly the Sliders, Doctor Who and his companions all beamed on board of the real Parship Endeavour.
Wade said “Wow! This place is even cooler than virtual reality!”
“Virtual reality? And who are you?” Archer asked.
“Captain Archer, this is Miss Wade Wells. The four of us here call ourselves the Sliders since we Slide through parallel universes – Mister Rembrandt Brown, Mister Quinn Mallory and myself Professor Maximillian Arturo. This is the Doctor, and his companions: Miss Tegan Jovanka, Mister Adric of Alzarius and Miss Nyssa of Traken. This person is Hindle of the earth military from a parallel universe. We all are from parallel universes, as you can see. We Sliders are from what we call Earth-Prime. The Doctor, Hindle and his companions are from another universe. The Doctor calls it the N-Space universe.”
“I’m from the E-Space universe actually.” Adric pointed out.
“These parallels are headache inducing”, Archer said. “But your story interests me greatly. The Sliders are well known as the inventors of the Sliding Technology hundreds of years ago. My ancestor is said to have been a First Slider.”

Who Sliders 1 – Doctor Who and the Sliders: Leisure Centre Hotel

This is a crossover fanfic featuring Doctor Who (the Fifth Doctor – played by Peter Davison in the classic BBC tv series – and the Sliders. It happens after the events in the fanfic Doctor Who and the X-Men: The Director’s Cut. It has various inspirations.

It is really great to hear of the DVD release of the mara episodes, now that I am republishing my related fanfics.

The first WhoSliders series starred the 5th Doctor. The second series starred Rose Tyler, after the Time War but there is some overlap before/after lol. (the Time War is changing things with the Parship too astute readers will notice in 2016)  The third series will be a followup to the current Doctor Who series…

Earth-2001

A long time ago, on a parallel earth, boredom lead the inhabitants to build more and more leisure centres. The most advanced technology was used in these centres so that the visitors to the centres could relax. Many people gladly gave up their work as the government was paying them a larger amount than they had ever earned as a salary, and all they had to do was relax, in these centres.

At a particular leisure centre in Britain, a humming noise could be heard. Suddenly the particles of the air at one corner of a storage room began shimmering, until a form was apparent. It was the form of a Police Call Box. The TARDIS had materialised in the storage room.

“Doctor, where are we?”, Quinn asked.
“This could hardly be Deva Loka”, Tegan interjected.
“You know, Doctor, at times this TARDIS does not seem to work as it should.” Hindle told the Doctor.
“That’s enough. Hindle. Need I remind everyone how you almost blew Deva Loka up when we were there? This is Earth, 21st Century, it is the year 2001. We have left the parallel universes of the X-Men, I call that X-Space for convenience. This is still not our universe.” the Doctor said.
“This looks like a storage compartment to me. Perhaps we will have an Odyssey, or a Travesty in 2001. I still have not completely gotten over the fact that I was going to be killed by that madman Rickman.” Professor Arturo said.

UC Who

This is a fanfic crossover between the British tv show Doctor Who (featuring the 8th Doctor from the tv movie and BBC novels) and the Maltese tv show UC5 (aka Undercover 5), the prequel to Dejjem Tieghek Becky.

Story (C) 2003-2010 Mr Scirev.

Spoilers: Dr Who Timeline Related to this Fanfic: It happens straight after the BBC Books 8DA “FALL OF YQUATINE”.

He is currently in his eighth incarnation (7th regeneration). His thirteenth will be the last.

The Doctor with his companions – currently Fitz Kreiner and Compassion herself – are on a crusade to champion the cause of the innocent, the helpless and the powerless throughout the universe. This story’s theme: Compassion (The Doctor’s new TARDIS, a living machine which can travel through space and time but which can appear in humanoid form) is stuck in the shape of a Maltese policewoman named Becky (from the Undercover, UC5 PBS show) from 2003. The problem? Becky has recently drowned and is believed to be dead. (happens after the BBC book 8DA ‘FALL OF YQUATINE’, after the last UC5 episode, and contemporary to the 1st DEJJEM TIEGHEK BECKY episode which I call ‘THE SEARCH’)

NEWS: posted 30/9/2003: This week Becky returns in the new show DEJJEM TIEGHEK BECKY. She’s going to resign and take a new employment on a ship now. I think she will have amnesia or something. So this fanfic can happen just the same.

Mr Bert, or Is-Sur Bert as he was called in Maltese, was shocked. Utterly shocked. His mouth was wide open and stared at the dark-haired woman. His eyes were glazing at her.

The woman looked back in anger, obviously offended by his stare. Bert was becoming confused. ‘How is this possible?’ he thought, loudly enough for anyone to hear him.

How can one explain what happened to Number Ten? He’s one of the new arrivals in the Village. We have many new arrivals, after most of our population left, including the Butler, in our latest experiment on Number Six. Remember how most of the village people left, even Number Six, all thinking that they had regained their long lost freedom. Well some of them we did allow to remain in London, but the rest we brought back once the experiment was over. That includes Number Six. Pity that for the experiment, our Number Two had to retire. But we have promoted Number Three to Number Two now! Such a beautiful town we have, gentlemen. It’s a bright sunny day this morning. Yes. I was telling you about Number Ten. He was busy with one of his investigations one of these days, when he encountered our own Number Six. Number Six had once more managed to make an escape by hiding in an empty oil tank that was lined up to leave the village in the Potemkin. He had studied the sea operations quite carefully, the naughty fellow managed to slip away once more…

The Enterprise was suffering from the barrage of firepower
from all nine Cyber ships. The battle was not going well. Two
of the ships had been crippled, but the remaining seven were
fully operational. The Cyberfleet did have a major disadvantage
though, speed. The Enterprise was more manoeuvrable and agile
than the attacking ships.
“Forward shields have dropped to 83%. Aft shields are
holding at 79%.” reported Worf.

Chapter Seven
———————

Ace tossed and turned. She couldn’t get to sleep. She was
thinking about the Doctor, how she’d run out on him, how she’d failed
him. She didn’t like Cybermen, ever since the first encounter on
Earth in 1988 when they’d tried to take control of the Nemesis statue.
The statue had destroyed the entire Cyberfleet – or so she’d thought.
Then came the showdowns with the psychic circus, the Destroyer (and
Morgaine), Gabriel Chase in Perivale, and most recently the
confrontation with Fenric. That had almost broken her. She’d thought
her trust in the Doctor had been shattered, but he’d explained the
situation afterwards. The Doctor had suggested a short holiday,
perhaps to the Eye of Orion. She thought back to that moment when
they left England, (how she’d been glad to get out of those clothes
and into her normal attire).
“I think I could do with a holiday.” the Doctor had said. Ace
dropped off to sleep and, as she slept, thoughts flooded though her mind.
