WhoSliders #17 – Doctor Who and the Sliders: Goodbyes

Spread the love

This is the crossover fanfic in my fan-series featuring Doctor Who (the Fifth Doctor – played by Peter Davison in the classic BBC tv series) – and the Sliders.

Story (C) 2006-2015 Mr SciRev.

For the Dr Who Timeline Related to this Fanfic, or to read what happened just before this fanfic, please see WhoSliders 16
For Stargate SG-1 this fanfic occurs just before the Season 4 episode “WATERGATE”.

What you need to know:
The Doctor is a Time Lord – a time-traveller from the alien world called Gallifrey [Universe-777, the Stargate Universe] who travels in space and time thanks to his TARDIS which looks like a police box, bigger inside than outside. When the Doctor is severely injured or even killed, he will regenerate into a new appearance and body. He is currently in his fifth incarnation (4th regeneration). His thirteenth will be the last.

The Sliders have developed a technique called Sliding which allows them to go to different dimensions or parallel universes, but will they ever find the way to their home earths [Earth-001 for all except Maggie who is from Earth-022 (which no longer exists) and Diana from Earth-920]?

The Doctor with his companions – currently Major Samantha Carter of Stargate SG-1 from the US military of Earth-777, and the Sliders – is on a crusade to champion the cause of the innocent, the helpless and the powerless throughout the whole multiverse of multiple universes. The Doctor’s alteration to the Sliders’ timeline has resulted in multiple changes across various multiverse timelines in hypertime. Fixing these holes is an important task of the Doctor which has been sanctioned by an angel of God called the White Guardian. The Doctor has left behind his TARDIS in Earth-811 which has been stolen by mutant hater Ahab. Remmy decided to stay behind on Earth-820. The Doctor and SG-2 have been captured by the Goa’uld. Gabriel Law has just become a Goa’uld.
Meanwhile Tegan, Adric, and Nyssa are still at Cheyenne Mountain. SG-1 members Jack O’Neil, Daniel, Maggie and Teal’c are still on the planet PX8-999 better known as Deva Loka (seen in Doctor Who’s episode Kinda).”

PX8-999-777 (PX8-999 is the Stargate nomenclature but the additional -777 specifies universe 777)

The Doctor had been captured. Together with the military team Stargate SG-2, he had been taken captive and they were going to be placed within a set of transport rings which would send them to the nearby large Goa’uld Mothership.
The Doctor got out his sonic screwdriver, and disrupted the rings. The Jaffa did not notice what had caused the malfunction, so they forgot about the prisoners for a moment. This gave SG-2 the chance to strike at a couple of Jaffa and steal their Zat guns. As a result, the group managed to escape before they were boarded onto the mothership.

In the distance, the Doctor saw the Goa’uld Dhalman. The look on the Doctor’s face was a worried one. He recognised the host body of this Goa’uld – it was none other but SG-1 member Gabriel Law.

Jack, Teal’c, Daniel and Maggie, having escaped from capture, met the Doctor and they gave each other the bad news about Law. Now there was a Hok’tar (superhuman) Goa’uld out there.

Cheyenne Mountain, Earth-777

Upon the SG teams’ return to Earth via the Stargate, SG-1, the Doctor, the Sliders and General Hammond were discussing the sliding device in the briefing room. The device had been found earlier by SG-1 themselves.
The Doctor explained that he could utilise the device to zero on his TARDIS in a parallel universe, but he had to connect to the device in a kind of telepathic way. “A mindmeld?” was Jack’s reaction. “Not exactly. We Time Lords are connected to our TARDISes and this connection can be utilised by the device.”

The Doctor proceeded and stretched out his hands and almost touched the device. But there was a problem. He could see a picture of his TARDIS appear on the small viewscreen. It was on a parallel earth in the present time. It was being protected by a number of.. Cybermen? They looked like the older kind, but different still.
Maggie decided to leave the SG-1 team and join the Doctor on the mission to retrieve the TARDIS. General Hammond could not commit any resources to help the Doctor, unfortunately. First of all he disabled Law’s GDO signature, were he to try to come through the Stargate.

SG-1 themselves had been assigned an urgent mission to meet a humanoid race of aliens, the Enkarans, whose world was dying. Diana had decided to stay at Stargate Command rather than go on sliding for the time being. Mostly this was because of the more advanced physics research available on this earth compared to her home parallel earth.
Thus, the Doctor together with Sliders Maggie, Wade, Professor Arturo, Quinn, Hindle, Tegan, Adric and Nyssa used the sliding device from PX8-999 to go the parallel earth where the TARDIS was. Maggie, Quinn and Hindle were carrying zat-guns and P90 machine-guns, some of whom had been modified for this situation. Teal’c had given Wade a Staff weapon. They would need them to attack the Cybermen. They held hands and the Doctor activated the device by touch. They glimmered and disappeared in an instant. The device was gone too. General Hammond said ‘Good luck, Doctor’. It would be some time when they would meet again.

Earth-045

The Doctor and his companions materialised on a hilltop with various trees. Using the cover of the trees, they watch the various Cybermen move around, entering and exiting from the TARDIS. They see mutant hater Ahab, last seen in Earth-811 when he had stolen the TARDIS. Ahab was commanding the Cybermen. The Doctor thought this was odd. Didn’t the Cybermen have a Cyber-Leader or Cyber-Commander?
Suddenly the Doctor realised what was happening. Ahab was draining the energy of the TARDIS and the black hole it was connected to, to create a large enough wormhole in space, not far from the planet itself! This would, to put it simply, slide the entire planet to a different dimension! He was going to create Mondas-777, the planet where the Cybermen originated! And not only that, but these proto Cybermen were his creation, his ‘New Sentinels’.
The Doctor said this plan could not be stopped. He had met the Cybermen in his past, which lived hundreds of years after these Cybermen. To change the past could have serious consequences, and make things worse, as had happened with the Daleks when Gallifrey sent him to destroy them at the time when they were created. So the usual dilemma was upon him once more. Professor Arturo suggested they should attack the Cybermen just the same, or they would be stranded on Mondas without a TARDIS (though they could just slide but risk getting lost and never getting the TARDIS back, something the Doctor didn’t want). The Doctor and the others tended to agree, Tegan included. She never liked dangerous situations, but there was no going back or they would have to stay here and risk being transformed into Cybermen which was not good at all.

The Doctor led the assault against the ‘New Sentinels’. Using mainly zat guns provided by Stargate Command, the Sentinels were taken unaware. But, while a number of Sentinels were destroyed, the rest began to adapt themselves. Soon, the blasts had no effect on the proto Cybermen. This was the reason the Doctor did not want the modified weapons to be used too soon.
Within moments, the entire planet was being pulled into the wormhole by the black hole! Time and space began to distort itself as the planet passed through the wormhole tunnel! The Doctor realised that this world had been slid into the 777 Universe.

Mondas-777

This was how Mondas got to be a duplicate of Earth! It made sense, after all. Meanwhile Ahab had left the planet, presumably to target the mutants on Earth-616 once more. The Doctor told the others how Ahab would soon face the X-Men and the Fantastic Four on Earth-616. Meanwhile the Doctor told Hindle, Maggie and Quinn to fire the modified P90’s. The golden bullets struck the New Sentinels and defeated the greater part of them, enough to reach and enter the TARDIS safely.

They all managed to enter it and closed the TARDIS doors. The Doctor checked that all was working well and that nothing seemed to have been compromised. As far as he could tell anyway. The old girl was still in one piece and he dematerialised the TARDIS.

First stop – Hindle’s time, the future” the Doctor announced. Hindle would be back and rejoin his SG-1 team. He would recount of his encounter with the Doctor and the original SG-1 team which had inspired all those who joined SG-1 afterwards.

After Hindle had been dropped off, the White Guardian appeared and announced that it was time for the current WhoSliders to split up. The Doctor, Tegan, Nyssa and Adric would drop off the other Sliders – Professor Arturo, Quinn, Maggie and Wade would be dropped off on their own parallel earth, whose coordinates were clearly given to the Doctor now by the Guardian. Though the Sliders expressed a wish to rejoin Remmy first, who had stayed behind on a parallel earth, they decided to follow the Guardian’s advice and go home for the time being. The Doctor altered Wade’s mobile phone so that it would be able to connect to the Doctor’s TARDIS even from a parallel universe.

Earth-001

Quinn and the others arrived at his home, after the TARDIS had dematerialised. Maggie was planning to discover whether the Stargate programme existed on this earth. Quinn noted that the gate at his house was not squeaking. Had the Guardian given them the wrong coordinates after all? They still had the Sliding remote. They could use it to leave. Or they could phone the Doctor. Wade decided a phone call was the simplest thing to do. The Doctor, currently in the TARDIS somewhere else in time and space, reconfirmed that this was the right universe. So Quinn decided to check and not rely on simply a gate. Upon further checking – his home, Arturo’s, etc – it became clear that the Sliders had arrived to their correct world! His mum had fixed that stupid gate!

Quinn and Arturo would soon continue studying the theory of Sliding itself. Meanwhile Maggie had a full specification and some samples of the anti-kromagg virus with her. It would be used to spray this earth in an eventual attack by any remaining Kromaggs if they still were alive after their defeat on Earth-777. The Doctor had said that the remaining ones ended up as Goa’uld hosts, so the non-intervention treaty with Earth meant that earth was safe. But that treaty existed on Earth-777 for sure. Did it exist on Earth-001?

THE END…

Continued in the next Fanfic Who Sliders 18 “DAEDALUS RISING” ! We skip ahead to the current Doctor Who (the 10th Doctor as played on tv by David Tennant) as the Doctor encounters a certain Commander of a battlecruiser!
