New Star Trek Beyond Trailer Lacks Character/Story (UPDATED with Wil Wheaton & George Takei reactions)

Spread the love

I want character sequences.. actual story. There’s not much of this for me in the trailer and it certainly doesn’t make me want to watch it at the cinema. I know they try to make it seem high octane in the trailers but the last one was so bad I think I am strongly tempted to avoid this one now.

Star Trek is about characters. It is an experience. A story. Darkness wasn’t any of that. Actually I’m wondering if the new Star Wars will end up being like Darkness, a complete mess.
Actually the new Star Wars is the way it should be. The LA Times’ Rebecca Keegan was very impressed, sharing: “Story, characters, design, humour. Stars Wars fans, this is the movie you’re looking for.” So precisely what the new JJ Star Trek lacks, is found in JJ’s Star Wars.
Just my opinion!

Ars Technica has a similar opinion to mine! It’s all about dudes punching on a rocky planet.

This was posted on a facebook page and I really agree. “What makes Star Trek what it has been classically is the exploration of space, the conflict between cultures, and social issues. Many of the episodes, especially some of the best episodes didn’t even have a “bad guy”. They were a parable about discrimination or the haves vs the have nots.”

Simon Pegg is writing it. I did suggest to him to ensure there is a character based story, but I’m not seeing that so far.

UPDATE: Reactions from Wil Wheaton and George Takei aren’t that much different from mine.

George Takei spoke to Tech Insider and said ” “It doesn’t have that element that made Star Trek — Gene Roddenberry’s ‘Star Trek’ — what it was.”
