WhoSliders #21 – ROSE’S SLIDERS: GENERAL TEAL’C (20th ANNIVERSARY OF SLIDERS)

Spread the love

As soon as they appeared on the other side, they saw a number of soldiers – armed soldiers – pointing their weapons straight at them. A red alert began to ring throughout the building…

Suddenly a tall man with an eyepatch wearing black entered the room. His hair was short, looked stern and had a strange gold tattoo on his forehead. He spoke to the Torchwood team. “My name is General Teal’c. Who are you? Which world are you from?”

This is the crossover fanfic in my fan-series featuring Rose from Doctor Who (the new BBC tv series) – and a new Sliders team.

Story (C) 2007-2016 Mr SciRev. REPOSTED on 21/3/2015 for the 20th Anniversary of Sliders. Happy Anniversary to all Sliders fans!

What you need to know:
What if you could go to different earths? Same planet, different dimension and universe. Rose Tyler has found the gateway.

The Doctor is currently travelling with Martha Jones. He is on a crusade to champion the cause of the innocent, the helpless and the powerless throughout the whole multiverse of multiple universes. He has lost Rose to Earth-776. Interdimensional travel seems impossible so he can never meet her again.
Rose Tyler has formed a Torchwood team of Who-Sliders – Computer specialist and expert Jade Wells, Quantum Physicists Professor Arthur Maximillian and Conn Mallory, Police Liason Jeff Slade and Medic Liz Parker. Together they slide from parallel earth to parallel earth, trying to find Earth-777, where the Doctor is located… Mickey Smith has joined the team as unexpected guest, much as Remmy did with the original Sliders.

The Doctor is a Time Lord – a time-traveller from the alien world called Gallifrey [Universe-777, the Stargate Universe] who travels in space and time thanks to his TARDIS which looks like a police box, bigger inside than outside. When the Doctor is severely injured or even killed, he will regenerate into a new appearance and body. He is currently in his tenth incarnation (9th regeneration). He is the survivor of the Time War which saw his homeworld Gallifrey destroyed completely.

The original who-Sliders, after having managed to travel back to Earth-001, have kept experimenting with dimensional travel. Years have passed since the Sliders returned. They are no longer able to slide and have lost contact with the Doctor.”

Suddenly a tall man with an eyepatch wearing black entered the room. His hair was short, looked stern and had a strange gold tattoo on his forehead. He spoke to the Torchwood team. “My name is General Teal’c. Who are you? Which world are you from?
“We are a team called WHOSliders. We are from Earth-776, a parallel earth to yours. We come in peace” Rose answered. Her pose made it clear she was leading the team. Her thoughts went to Earth-777 though.

“Nick Fury?” a confused Mickey asked, just as soon as he came through the Stargate.

Was this Teal’c friendly, or had this installation been taken over by the Goa’uld of this universe?

The team was taken into a large holding cell. It seems they were not believed, or trusted at all.
After a few hours, someone came to visit them. He introduced himself as Daniel Jackson. He had himself been to a parallel universe, so he knew it was possible.
“This cell stinks… it’s so humid here!” Rose told Daniel.
“I know.. sorry about that. Let me tell you what happened on our world, though I shouldn’t but I feel I can trust you people.” Daniel thought that while he was ascended he had possibly seen Rose Tyler and these Sliders as they called themselves. But his memories of that time were insubstantial so he wasn’t sure of anything except for the time he had recently spent in the Ascended “Diner”…

He explained what had happened to Teal’c.
Years ago, Teal’c had been brainwashed by the Goa’uld Apophis. (The Teal’c of Earth-777 had gotten over this, thanks to his old mentor Bra’tac.)
On this Earth, however, Bra’tac, had not survived the ritual of Malshuraan, which was designed to help Teal’c remember his past. This had lead to various divergences from Earth-777’s history, first of all Teal’c was traumatised because he believed himself responsible for Bra’tac’s death.
“This Teal’c doesn’t sound like a nice guy!” Jeff commented as Daniel went on explaining how Teal’c ended up keeping his symbiote as a result. Teal’c had not managed to convince the other members of the Jaffa Rebellion to attack the planet Dakara, the world with a device built by the Ancients, capable of creating life in the galaxy. In Jaffa legends, Dakara was known as the place where their enslavement had began, so the very act of going there would be unthinkable.

Then Daniel continued to explain how another alien race – the Cybermen – had been interested in this weapon too and a Cyberfleet had been dispatched there.
Rose was shocked.. she knew of the cybermen from her universe and there were cybermen on Earth-776 too.. so they existed here too!

Daniel discussed how the planet was only lightly protected by the Goa’uld, so it fell to the Cybermen’s attack..
The Goa’uld Baal was sent by Anubis to retake the planet Dakara, while the SG-1 team was sent there to find the hidden device of the ancients. SG-1 including Teal’c went there in a cargo ship piloted by Jacob, Sam’s father. Jacob was one of the Tok’ra, a diplomat for humanity with the alien resistance against the Goa’uld. Years ago he was dying of cancer, then he was given a second chance at life by joining with a Tok’ra symbiote named Selmak.

When Jackson described the Goa’uld Anubis, who had failed ascension, Rose realised he was Anubis, an enemy of the Doctor. Anubis was not pleased at all with the Cybermen – after all he had a hand in their creation. To help his collaboration with Sam and Jacob, Baal’s forces engaged the Cybermen, keeping them distracted while they attempted to decode the lock in the place where the Ancient weapon was located.
Sam and Jacob managed to modify the weapon to be used to destroy all replicator life. In doing this Baal had betrayed Anubis. The blast went through all existing stargates and pulverised all the replicators. As a bonus, the Cybermen were temporarily disabled, allowing SG-1 to leave with the weapon. Unfortunately Jacob ended up being converted into a Cyberman. It is not known what happened to him and has not been seen again so far. No Jaffa revolution took place in this universe. Jaffas were still struggling against the Goa’uld oppressors – mainly Baal…

Teal’c had been injured in one such battle, he had lost one eye, which was why he had a patch. He had joined the earth military once it was clear the Jaffa uprising had been utterly defeated and Chulak had been destroyed leaving no survivors. In due time he rose to the rank of General and had taken over Stargate Command once General Jack O’Neill had married Colonel Sam Carter. This had happened last week, in fact.
Now Daniel had to leave before he would be seen talking to the Sliders.

C.I.A. agent Kerry Johnson would soon be interrogating the Sliders who were prisoners of Stargate Command. General Teal’c did not want to take Daniel’s advice regarding the prisoners. He wanted to be sure it was not a Goa’uld trap.
A search was done for the claimed identities of the individuals..

Rose Tyler did not even exist on this earth! Arthur and Conn did not exist either. Arthur’s identikit matched a certain Professor Arturo who had researched parallel universes. Arturo had collaborated with Stargate Command in the past, so General Teal’c decided to contact him. Arturo explained much of the theory of parallel universes to Teal’c. He described how his work had not worked in practice and he had thought something was wrong.

On Earth-776 and most of the other earths the important work in getting sliding to work properly and safely was done by Conn or Quinn Mallory (or Malary on a few of them)… on this earth there was no alternate Quinn alive, having been killed years ago in a Goa’uld attack on earth.

Agent Johnson began her interrogation. She chose to see them individually, to ascertain their responses. She started with Rose. She asked her about her family, which brought tears to her eyes. She had left her new family behind. Her “dad” – actually the version from Earth-776 – and her mum,  were still on Earth-776. They weren’t going to go on any kind of wild goose chase. At least Mickey was here. He hoped he would not be a liability to the team. She was different. Like the Doctor was. The Doctor. He was someone special and she wanted to find him. Tell him what she felt, what she was sure he felt too. The Doctor, like herself, Mickey and her mum, was from another parallel universe, Universe-777.
“Things are getting interesting”, Johnson thought.
Next to be interrogated was Liz. After some questioning, Liz ended up crying too. “I might never see my family, my friends and Max – Max is .. a special friend..” Johnson noted in her report that she was very similar to her counterpart on this earth. Too much to be just somebody who did some plastic surgery to impersonate somebody.
Professor Maximillian complained of back ache. He needed to stand up as his muscles were hurting him.

“We’ll bring you something for your back”, Johnson said, “meanwhile tell me about your sliding.”
Maximillian complained that he had already explained everything, “these people are blistering idiots!” he exclaimed, meanwhile some klaxons began to sound..
Something had happened.. An SG-1 GDO signal had been received and the Stargate had been opened, only a number of Cybermen came through the gate.. and CyberJacob was one of them…
This was a foothold situation.
