AlphaGate #3 – The Void

Spread the love

This is the crossover fanfic in my fan-series which features a parallel universe Moonbase Alpha (Space:1999) as it would occur in Universe-777 (the Stargate & Doctor Who universe).

Story (C) 2007-2012 Mr SciRev

Previous episode: AlphaGate 2

For the Stargate Timeline, it happens after Stargate Atlantis 4×3 and the Stargate Continuum movie.
SPOILER: Doctor Who – Doomsday (battle of canary wharf)
What you need to know:
“The IOA (International Oversight Advisory) has set up a top secret base on the moon powered by a ZPM (Zero-Point Module) – an ancient power source. Stargate Command has commissioned special crafts called Eagles and a Stargate – a ring-like device created by the Ancients able to send people through a wormhole – but one without a protective iris. A separate section on the moon houses a super-hadron collider. A mysterious hyperdrive in the catacombs of the moon has been activated, catapulting the moon to an unknown area in space. Currently the device had to be reactivated again, sending the moon into a void in space.”

“There is only one thing we can do. It’s not safe to evacuate Alpha using our Eagles, we will end up exploding too. As the Stargate is still not working, We must try to reactivate the hyperspace device. Koenig, go and reactivate it”, Daniel said.
So Koenig quickly took the travel tube to the catacombs area. He went and touched the hyperspace device which had been left behind by the Ancients. Suddenly all went hazy throughout the moonbase, and the moon disappeared from its present space. When it reappeared elsewhere, it was somewhere plain dark – with no stars around.
Helena thought, this was it then. Lee was really dead now. But where was this place, with no stars, just a nothingness or complete void. The Stargate aboard Moonbase Alpha was not working at all, even here. Where did they end up?
Daniel Jackson was wondering whether this space – this void – was the area of space between the Pegasus galaxy and the Milky way. He had read the various mission reports about the Stargates placed strategically there and the Midway Station, which was to help communication between the city of Atlantis (Stargate Atlantis) and Earth.
Sensors had indicated nothing. No stars, no galaxies visible. No black holes sucking matter. No white holes. Not even any mysterious dark matter. It was at least a billion light years across. There was no way the moon would drift to any inhabited or uninhabited system, and no way any Eagle would manage to get there either.
So it was not that void between the two galaxies. It had to be some other void, a much larger one, whereever it was.
Daniel asked Teal’c whether he had any knowledge of this area. Teal’c was a Jaffa, who had travelled the stars with the Goa’uld, before joining the SG-1 team. “There is mythology about this void between universes. Our legends say it was ruled by the Goa’uld Tiamat who had attempted to breach the barriers of the multiverse. On earth she posed as the Babylonian goddess of the void or chaos. She rebelled against Ra. It is belived that she was killed by Marduk near the end of the First Goa’uld Dynasty.”
“Very interesting. I don’t see where this will help us though!” John Koenig said.
“How could she rule this void?” Daniel asked.
“Of course the void – or part of it anyway – was filled with Goa’uld motherships. It was a central location for Tiamat at the time,” Teal’c answered.
“Sandra, rescan your sensors please”, Daniel said.
“It’s a waste of time! I don’t think we should be doing this. There’s nothing there, I think we should..”, John replied.
“Koenig, I’ve had enough with your pathetic attempts… that’s enough.” Commissioner Simmonds interrupted.

The alarm started blaring all through the base. What had happened?

Meanwhile in the other section on the moon, Professor Victor Bergman was supervising a test of the super-hadron collider.
It was time to start it up, so a warning alarm was sounded throughout all the moonbase, followed by a message from Victor. Victor announced that the collider was being started shortly.
The huge particle accelerator was being warmed up for quite some time, and now the collider’s test would begin shortly. Some persons felt sick just now, feeling high temperature and then fainting completley. It was odd, but the Professor quickly denied that there could be any connection to the collider’s operation. Dr Helena Russell would have to examine them and determine what the cause was. Professor Malcolm Taylor, on loan from the UNIT organization (where he worked as scientific advisor), was adamant that some unknown elementary particle might have been created by the collider’s, essentially mutating a simple flu virus into a deadly killer virus. He told Dr Russell that “the Doctor would have agreed with him, definitely!”. But the legendary Doctor, who at a time in the past was their scientific advisor, was not here. It was up to them to survive on the moon.

Back in Main Mission, the command and control area of Moonbase Alpha, Sandra Benes finished her sensor sweep, from her command station, just as the alarm went off and Professor Bergman’s message was heard.
Sandra reported to Daniel that nothing had been detected. This area of space was empty. Empty of planets, empty of spacecraft, empty of asteroids, empty of everything. Except for a small region – very close to the base – too close for comfort where some small objects moved rapidly. Their direction? The moonbase, of course. Whatever it was, it was being attracted to the base.

Within a few seconds, the glass on the main viewscreen – which was supposed to be a tough glass – got shattered into a million pieces. A couple of staff got sucked into the vacuum of space, while a couple of Cybermen broke into the moonbase. They had been marooned in the void at the incident of Canary Wharf.
Everyone was shocked. Daniel Jackson ordered the room to be closed and the force field to be raised. The force field was designed by Victor, after years of research back on earth. Thankfully it held back the air until the viewscreen could be repaired. But for the time being they had to deal with the cybermen.

“Humans.. prepare to be upgraded. Human 2.0 requirement: you must be willing to become cybermen.”
“What?” technician Albert Marson said. “Never. I will never become a monster like you.”
“You are INCOMPATIBLE with our requirements. You will be DELETED”, the Cyberleader said, as he fired an electrical charge at Albert, killing him immediately.

“We surrender. This base is yours”, Daniel said.
Sandra was afraid. The Cybermen had unleashed a wave of destruction not too long ago on earth. But they were defeated. But could they defeat the cybermen by themselves? And even if they could, what about the killer flu virus?
Teal’c was angry that he did not have his staff weapon with him, or even a zat gun. So he was just as helpless. He kept his mouth shut though as he was sure he would end up like Albert, dead.
“Good humans. We will take over the base and begin the building of a conversion chamber. You will be like us, soon..” the Cyberleader said.

Tony Verdeschi was in one of the nearby corridors when he heard the cybermen speak. He got a good group of security officers with their stordi-lasers and P90 rifles. They waited for the Main Mission doors to open and fired as soon as they got a good handle on the intruders. The P90 rifles were not having much of an effect except scraping some of the cybermen’s armour.
The stordi-lasers, though, were working. The cybermen screamed in pain, their systems went into an overload and fell. Foam came out of them, filling some of the floor.
John, Simmonds and Daniel were very happy that the stordi-lasers had worked so well against the cybermen. A cleanup team came to take the remains of the cybermen and put them in a special section of the catacombs, kept under lock and key. They took care to ensure that the cybermen had been completely neutralised.

Thus soon after it was decided by Simmonds, Daniel and John that it would be best to hyperjump the moon once more. Perhaps they would end up back in Universe-777, as currently they were in some void between dimensions which harboured dangerous creatures – Cybermen and Daleks – at best. So Moonbase Alpha took the next leap, and promptly… everyone in Main Mission saw the Earth! They had finally ended up in orbit around what seemed to be earth.
But was it? Everyone in Main Mission sighed, hoping they could go home again finally, though the virus might mean they would have to spend some time in isolation…
